General Self Defense Training Information

Empower Training Systems provides self defense training programs for individuals (private), corporate settings, organizations or any public or private groups who have a need or desire to improve or enhance personal safety. Empower Training Systems:

  • Has a core self defense program and curriculum which is easily modified or adapted to meet a client’s specific needs, desires and goals.
  • Can provide guidance to a client, based on our extensive experience (since 1982) in self defense instructional program design and delivery. Empower and the self defense client work as a team to create and implement a quality, realistic, practical, effective and safe self defense training program that meets the client’s specifications and requirements.
  • Provides self defense training programs for all ages, genders, physical capabilities and situations, including:
    • Children
    • Seniors
    • Women/Men
    • College bound young adults
    • Specific industry/professions
    • School PE or Health programs, or
    • For anyone who needs to become safer in this world!

Empower Training Systems can provide a wide range of self defense training / personal safety services that can be adapted to the specific needs of each client, including (but not limited to):

  • Self Defense / Personal Safety Talks (Lunch ‘n Learns) – Typically 45-75 minutes with a range of self defense / personal safety subject matter available.
  • Intro to Self Defense Workshops – Typically 1.5-2 hours of self defense instruction that introduces participants to the many aspects of physical self defense training.
  • Self Defense Training Program – We have designed programs for various clients that have ranged from a 3 hour condensed curriculum to our full 25 hour self defense instruction program. Programs are designed to meet client needs within any financial, logistical or other constraints or limitations.

Children Personal Safety / Self Defense Training Programs

ETS offers different programs for various ages.

Kid’s Safe Seminar (ages 5 – 7 and 8 – 12) Parents must attend this personal safety seminar with their children. This is a fun, interactive seminar that educates parents and children about predator lures and how to deal with them.

Junior (ages 10 – 12) & Teen (ages 13 – 16) Self Defense Workshop Series: This self defense training must be completed in sequence.

  • Phase 1 – The emphasis is on developing a heightened sense of mental, emotional, environmental and physical awareness. Along with learning about and practicing “recognition and avoidance”, students learn and practice basic self defense striking, blocking & evasion techniques.
  • Phase 2 – Learn and practice self defense methods for releasing and escaping from various holds and grabs (bear hugs, chokes, hammer locks, head locks, hair grabs, and many, many more).
  • Phase 3 – Learn and practice specific self defense techniques and strategies for situations such as multiple attackers, ground fighting, weapon attacks, car attacks, etc.

Adult Self Defense Training Programs

Proactive Personal Security Self Defense Training – This program can be designed to accommodate all participants including:

  • Women
  • Men
  • Seniors
  • Special populations

The complete self defense program consists of four training “Phases”. Each Phase includes and emphasizes training in the 4 types of awareness (mental, emotional, environmental and physical) and in the concept of “recognition and avoidance”.

  • PHASE 1 – Learn and practice basic self defense striking, blocking & evasion techniques
  • PHASE 2 – Learn and practice self defense methods for releasing and escaping from various holds and grabs (bear hugs, chokes, hammer locks, head locks, hair grabs, and many, many more).
  • PHASE 3 – Learn and practice self defense techniques against weapons (knife,gun,bat, etc). Learn and practice weapon self defense concepts.
  • PHASE 4 - Specific self defense training for the environment of the specific participant (flight attendants, real estate, college student, outside salesperson,etc). Learn how to apply self defense theory, concepts and strategies to specific social and work-related environments. Also includes training for multiple attack, ground fighting, etc.

Self Defense Training Programs for Corporations, Organizations, Wellness Programs, and/or Private Groups

Today, many corporations, organizations or private groups have the desire to provide their employees or members with a complete wellness program in which self defense / personal safety training can and should be an essential component. In order to get cooperative participation in such a program, it is wise to introduce self defense training in a way that any intimidation or apprehension about self defense training is minimized or eliminated.  Empower Training Systems has had great success with the following “3 Step Process for Introducing a Self Defense Program” plan.

3 Step Process for Introducing a Self Defense Training Program

  • Step 1 – Offer a free Lecture/Discussion (Lunch ‘n Learn) about “What to Look for in a Self Defense Training Program” – follow up with a survey to gauge the interest level in an Intro to Self Defense workshop. If there is enough interest, go to Step 2.
  • Step 2 – Offer an “Intro to Self Defense Training” workshop – this is typically a 1.5 to 2 hour self defense class or workshop that gives the participants a chance to experience samples of the actual self defense training curriculum and the instructor. Follow this with a survey to gauge the interest level in a full program. If the interest is there, move to Step 3.
  • Step 3 – Design the self defense training program according to client guidelines and goals and provide (teach it) it to the group!

College Bound Personal Safety / Self Defense Training Programs

This workshop includes self defense information and training specifically addressing the situations and circumstances that could be potentially encountered by a young adult heading off to the college environment and way of life. This is ideal for young women. Contact ETS for more details.

Custom Designed Specialty Self Defense Training Workshops

All self defense / personal safety training workshops can be modified and adapted to meet the specific needs of the participants (Seniors, Law Enforcement, Loss Prevention, College Students, Hospital employees, and many, many more). We offer custom designed self defense training for the corporate environment, as well as specific and unique organizational and facility needs.
