Includes a Self Defense Instructor Training with 31 Modules, online videos, and written exams. Trainees must successfully complete (scoring 80% or better) a written, online open-book exam.

Course Description

Fitness professionals will expand their knowledge base and skill sets by completing this instructor training course, which will in turn expand the fitness professional’s potential client/participant base and increasing his or her income-generating opportunities. Those who complete this course will learn about the importance of the 4 Types of Awareness, about the differences between fitness/martial arts/self defense training, about teaching self defense techniques according to biomechanical principles, about proper conditioning routines for self defense training, about how to most effectively perform combinations of techniques for numerous types of attacks (strikes, grabs, holds, etc), about her legal liabilities of self defense, and much more! There are live training workshops available to follow the home study courses for the fitness professional who wants more. Ask about our Specialty Certification!

Course Objectives

Those who complete this course will be able to:
  • Identify and explain the four types of awareness, as they relate to personal security training (mental, emotional, environmental, and physical) 
  • ​Demonstrate and perform basic self defense strategies and techniques, including proper neutral/defensive stance, evasion techniques, re-direction techniques, skills for the development of maximum potential power, speed, and accuracy in execution of Elbow Strikes, Palm Heel Strikes, Knee Strikes, Front Kick, and Side Kick/Stomp
  • ​ Identify primary and secondary targets for specific techniques
  • ​Outline basic personal safety concepts, strategies and techniques related to strikes and movements
  • ​Progressively teach and practice basic self defense strategies and techniques, including loosening technique biomechanics for the development of maximum potential power, speed, and accuracy in execution against various types of attacks, including (but not limited to) Chokes, Bear hugs, Hair grabs, Headlocks, Full nelson, Shoulder/Lapel grabs, Hammerlocks, Arm bars, and combining loosening techniques with striking techniques
  • ​Provide the participant with the ability to teach basic self defense concepts
  • ​Provide information about and instruction on specific methods of cardiovascular training that would be required for and enhance the performance of physical self defense-type activities
  • ​Demonstrate safe and proper muscular system endurance, strength and power conditioning exercises specific to self-defense technique and movement training
  • ​Explain how to apply the concept of Progressive Overload to self-defense training and conditioning.
